How to Build Relationships with your Contractors

StockSnap_NJ5IKKFZ55Building a better relationship will help you improve your business and allow you to have some fun at the same time. When you build a better relationship you will build loyalty. Ultimately this could mean a smaller turnover for subbies, a better working environment and better communication. Good networking is an invaluable tool because it’s not always what you know but who you know.

Creating a great subbie relationship doesn’t have to be hard, in fact, it can be fun, simple, and a good team building experience. There are many ways you can do this and it doesn’t have to cost the earth. Have a look at our list of things to do to nurture a great relationship.

Snacks and beers at the pub after work. This is a great way to socialise, relax, and unwind after a day of work, at the wrap-up of a project, or the end of a working week. The atmosphere, music, beer, and food will put everyone in high spirits – While this is a great way to network, timing is everything, plan for a day like Friday where there is no work the next day, nobody likes to work hungover.

BBQ lunch, everyone loves a good sausage sizzle with watties (tomato sauce). This is perfect to lift spirits and spurn a few good work yarns. Snags with fried onion, bread, and a squirt of sauce are a kiwi staple, not to mention cost effective. Food brings people together and your subbies will LOVE a snag lunch.

Fishing, this is an activity that everyone enjoys, the sea breeze in your hair, fresh snapper for dinner, a couple of brews, sunshine, the gentle rocking of the ocean, and of course the banter. A fishing trip is on the more expensive side, but it will make your subbies feel valued, and like part of the team. It will solidify their loyalty to your business and in the end, make life easier for you. Aside from that and the perks it will have for you, let’s be honest that fishing trip will be fun for you as well.

There are a bunch of other activities you can do with your subbies, such as paintball, go-carting, clay bird shooting, however, it doesn’t need to cost the earth, it just needs to foster the right environment for some good banter.
